OK, we had to make another trip to the pedi's office this morning. His right ear is still draining nasty gook after 9 days of Augmentin and a decongestant. The outside of his ear has become a nasty mess also and has sores on it from the drainage. I called this morning to get the earliest appt that was available with either his Dr. or the NP. The NP had an appt at 8:00, so we quickly got dressed and went to the dr's office. (it was 7:40 when I got the appt)
When we got in the back and got our weight (28 lbs 2 oz) and our height (33.5 inches), Dr. Pat came in. She said that she wanted to check him since he was still having problems. She looked in his ears and said that it was definitely his right ear that had the problems (it's had the most problems all along) and she did a culture on the gook in his ear. Hopefully that will show something. She checked his chest and he has some congestion in there also.
So, now we're on drops for his ear with an ointment for the outside to help it get better. We've upped his dosage of the decongestant. We're on Singulair at bedtime to help some of this dry up. Dr. Pat seems to think that most of the problems are coming from allergies - and the crazy weather we've had. We're also on the nebulizer again starting off at twice a day and then weaning to once a day for the next month to get rid of the chest congestion.
If this does not clear up his ear this week, then we're off to the ENT. We'll have to have the gook vacuumed out. Please pray that this doesn't happen. It sounds horrible for both him and us. He hates you messing with his ears and I can only imagine trying to hold him down to vacuum his ear out and how traumatic that would be.
