We are slowly trying to get back to normal around here. Today, we finally went to Wal-Mart to replenish what we lost from our fridge and freezer. I refused to go refill it if all we were going to do was lose it all again when Ike came through. So far, prayers have been answered and we had no major problems from Ike. My thoughts and prayers have been with those in the path of Hurricane Ike, but I am extremely glad that we have been spared another MASSIVE hurricane.
I went back to school on Thursday, but the kids come back tomorrow. We are officially getting back to what we were before Gustav. I don't know that we will ever be the same due to the craziness that was Gustav and all that came with him, but we will live with new knowledge. Knowledge that we are not as safe from water as we thought we were and just how important some things are and how unimportant others are. It's amazing when you have to go through your whole house in a very short amount of time and try to figure out what is irreplaceable and what can be left. It's just totally overwhelming. Knowledge that you can live without power for 10 days and only running a generator at night and still make it. You will be fairly miserable and very hot, but you will be OK!
I am finding myself still having troubles functioning normally some days. I am just in a cloud that takes over, but the cloud is coming less and less. I think once we get back in the swing of things at school, my life will be back to normal quickly.
Thanks to everyone who has thought of us and checked on us and helped us recover from this storm. We love you all!!!
