On January 24, Chuck E Cheese so graciously reminded me that William turned 5 1/2 years old. Theirs was a promotional thing, mine was one of shock and amazement. Where has 5 1/2 years gone???
Just these past 2 weeks have shown me just how grown up he has become. We have gone out to eat both weekends and I could not have asked for a better child. I was so impressed last night, when he followed his Daddy's example (actually even before Eddie because he sat before Eddie did) and immediately took his hat off at the table when we sat down. I am constantly amazed at the little things he now knows without being reminded that I don't expect him to know.
I confess, I still make him ride in the buggy when we go to the store. Mostly for my sanity, but also for his safety. Last night we let him walk around the Bass Pro Shop and this morning I let him walk around the Dollar Store while we shopped. I was half expecting a chihuahua on crack in both places, but he was such a little man. He even unloaded the basket for me at the Dollar Store without being asked or prompted to help.
It seems like just yesterday we were making the daily trips to the hospital to see him, but all at the same time that seems so long ago. I look at him now and wonder what kind of person he is to become. If these past 5 years are any indication, he is going to be a strong, determined, caring, giving man. It will be my pleasure to help mold him into that man.
