Last night, William started running a fever of around 104! Talk about a scared Mamma. I immediately gave him Tylenol and started him drinking and called my Mom. My brother had febrile seizures, so I knew that she would know what to do. They suggested putting him in a tub of cool water, which I knew, but forgot in the panic of my baby having a high fever. So, him and his Daddy got in a cool shower for as long as he would tolerate it. I also gave him Motrin after 2 hours and that finally brought the fever all the way down. He woke up again at 3 am and it was back to 104ish. Again, Tylenol and juice. It came down and we went back to sleep. Up again at 8 am and fever back to 103ish so I called the dr's office and got the earliest appt they had - 11:15 am. He stayed warm, but I didn't want to give too much meds so there would be nothing for the NP to see (pedi wasn't in today). It's the catch 22 when going to the dr's office - give meds to help them feel better or not give meds and have symptoms for the dr to see???
So, we see the NP and she can't find a reason for the fever by her initial exam. He is having no other symptoms other than the fever. Chest is clear, tummy sounds good, ears are clear, nose looks good, throat is slightly red but negative strep test, so we go to an urine eval and blood work. All negative! She deduces that it is a viral infection and to give him the Tylenol and Motrin alternating for the next day or so and watch him closely. If the fever isn't gone in the next 2 days, come back and we'll see.
Say some prayers that it will all work out. We have his birthday party on Saturday. Wouldn't that be fun, a party with a sick birthday boy or no party at all!! Most of all, I want my little man back. He's quite pitiful when the fever gets high again. When it gets to about 101/102 he starts playing again and is almost back to his normal self. I don't want my baby to be sick at all, so here's hoping he gets better quickly!
