Today we went to my parents' house for an early Father's Day celebration. We had burgers and fries and went swimming. A great summer afternoon.
My Mom got William a new swim suit last week, so we tried it out. It's got an inflatable ring around his belly and he did well at first. It didn't hold him completely out of the water, but did a better job than his last suit. My Dad came out and decided that arm floaties would probably help to hold him up, so he went in the house to get a pair. That did the trick!! The floaties gave him the extra confidence he needed and off he went. He was kicking his feet and getting himself anywhere he wanted to go. He swam across the shallow end and back again. We had to put the rope up to keep him in the shallow end and out of the deep end. I was in complete shock!! He loves to jump off of the side, but I never knew he was ready to do this. Going underwater doesn't really scare him so we've been slowly working with him. He knows to kick his feet and I guess it just clicked. He was off!
We got out for a while and when Eddie got there, we got back in for a quick show. He was as amazed as I was. William also added a new trick this go around. He's figured out how to float on his belly with his feet behind him and his face stays out of the water. He then pulls his feet under him and starts kicking again. It's amazing to see this little person moving around in the water just like a duck! My brother-in-law said that he was going to get him a pair of flippers and there would be no stopping him!!
My little boy is growing up too fast!!
